Fur….how many of you would do the dirty work?
I’ve just had a lengthy debate about whether or not it is acceptable to wear fur…a fashion trend I am fervently against. But, believe it or not, plenty of women still see fur as classy and luxurious, and insist they will wear it regardless of what others think. So, I started to wonder……….
How many of you pro-fur ladies would do the dirty work? How many of you could aquire a population of mink, keep them in cages and care for them (or not) accordingly, and then have the stomach to kill them, gut them and skin them to make a coat?
Is it wrong to think that those who wear fur should be able to do a bit of the dirty work? If you wear fur, or approve of fur, could you yourself slaughter and skin?

I eat venison and I wear some of the leather made from my deer and I use some of the fur, antlers, bones, and leather for artistic projects. I would absolutely skin and butcher my own meat and tan my own skins. In fact, I’d like to learn how. The deer butcher I use would be happy to teach me how, if I ever find the time. In the meantime, he does it for me.
I would not wear fur unless the fur-bearing animal was able to be eaten or my life depended on my wearing that fur. Somehow, I don’t see myself in a weather situation where I’ll need to drape myself in wolfskins, or eat a bunch of mink. So I do not support fur for the sake of fur. The same way I do not support killing bears for their gall bladders or tigers for their penises and bones, or elephants for their tusks. Use it humanely. Use it all or use it not at all, and be sure that there is always a viable population to return to, that is my motto.
